When a territorial election is called, there are different ways Yukoners can vote. All registered electors will be sent a voter information card showing when and where to vote. A full list of the dates and locations will also be posted online.
Vote at a returning office (RO office)
Once an election is called, offices are set up in all 21 electoral districts. Offices are open 6 days a week during the election period. The office addresses and hours will be posted online shortly after an election is called.
You can vote in person at any returning office across the Yukon. To vote at a returning office, you will need to fill out an application and show ID. Staff at the office can help you fill out the form. Most people use their Yukon driver's license or general identification card. There are more than 50 ID options.
All voting at returning offices is done by special ballot. Special Ballot applications closed on October 31 at 8:00 pm.
Vote at an advance poll
Advance polls take place on the Sunday and Monday before polling day from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Every registered elector is assigned to a polling location based on where they live. Registered electors can find their assigned advanced polling location on their voter information card or online.
- A special Advance Poll (Territorial) will also be available in Whitehorse at the Elks Hall for any elector.
- This also supports electors outside of Whitehorse who may be in Whitehorse during the Advance Poll and otherwise might not be able to vote.
Vote on polling day (election day)
Every registered elector is assigned to a polling location based on where they live. Registered electors can find their assigned polling location on their voter information card or online. Polls are open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
The list of voting locations are below:
Vote by mail
Once an election is called, electors can apply to be mailed a ballot. You can apply by:
- completing an online application and uploading a copy of your ID, or
- downloading and printing the application form. The completed application and a copy of your ID can be mailed or faxed to Elections Yukon at (867) 393-6977.
The online and downloadable applications are posted online here.
If you are planning to vote by mail, you are encouraged to submit your application early. All voting by mail is done by special ballot.
Due to the current Canada Post strike:
- Special ballot kits of electors outside of the Yukon will be sent by courier.
- A return courier envelope will also be provided. This will be paid by Elections Yukon.
Special ballots need to be returned to Elections Yukon before November 3 at 8:00 pm.
Accessible voting supports
Elections Yukon strives to make voting accessible to all electors, regardless of their needs. We have services and support for electors with disabilities or underlying health conditions to support them to vote. Electors can also use their own assistive/adaptive devices at returning offices.
Polling place accessibility
Polling places are often in schools, community centers, libraries, and other public buildings. While locations are chosen with accessibility in mind, some may not have barrier-free access. If your assigned polling place is not accessible, it will be noted on your voter information card and online.
Electors who are not able to access their assigned polling place on polling day can vote:
- at their assigned advanced polling location, which may have better accessibility
- at any returning office
- by mail
- by making arrangements for an election official to meet you outside your assigned polling place.
