Who can vote or be a candidate in a school council election
You can vote or be a candidate in a school council election if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and you:
- are the parent/guardian of a student who attends the school
AND/OR - have lived in the school's attendance area for at least three (3) months.
You may be able to vote or be a candidate in more than one school council election.
If you are not sure which school attendance area you live in, check the attendance area maps or contact the Department of Education's school council liaison.
Who can vote or be a candidate in a Catholic school council election
You can vote or be a candidate in a Catholic school council election if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and you:
- are the parent/guardian of a student who attends the school
AND/OR - have lived in the school's attendance area for at least three (3) months and are a registered parishioner at Sacred Heart Cathedral parish or Our Lady of Victory parish.
If you do not live in the attendance area or are a Catholic who is not a registered parishioner, you may still be able to vote or be a candidate in a Catholic school council election. Contact the Catholic Diocese of Whitehorse (867-667-2052 / contact@rcdw.ca) to discuss additional eligibility options.

Voting in school council elections
A vote is needed to elect members to the following school councils:
- Christ the King Elementary School
- Holy Family Elementary School
- St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School
Members for all other school councils were acclaimed.
Voting in-person
Eligible electors can vote in-person at the school holding the election on:
- Saturday, May 4 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm; or
- Monday, May 6 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm
Alternate voting arrangements
If you are unable to vote during the set polling hours, you can apply to have a ballot kit mailed to you or held for pickup at Elections Yukon's office during business hours.
To apply, email schools@electionsyukon.ca:
- a completed and signed application to vote; and
- a picture or scan of your identification that shows your name and current residential address.
