2024 School council general elections

The 2024 school council general elections for the seventeen (17) Yukon education schools will run from April 15 to May 6, 2024.

Important dates

  • Candidate nominations
    • Open: Monday, April 15
    • Close: Thursday, April 25 at 12 noon (now closed)
  • Voting:
    • Early voting: Saturday, May 4
    • Polling day: Monday, May 6
  • Results:
    • Unofficial results: Monday, May 6
    • Official results: Tuesday, May 7

Who can vote or be a candidate in a school council election

You can vote or be a candidate in a school council election if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and you:

  • are the parent/guardian of a student who attends the school
    AND/OR
  • have lived in the school's attendance area for at least three (3) months.

You may be able to vote or be a candidate in more than one school council election.

If you are not sure which school attendance area you live in, check the attendance area maps or contact the Department of Education's school council liaison.

Voting or being a candidate in a Catholic school council election

You can vote or be a candidate in a Catholic school council election if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and you:

  • are the parent/guardian of a student who attends the school
    AND/OR
  • have lived in the school's attendance area for at least three (3) months and are a registered parishioner at Sacred Heart Cathedral parish or Our Lady of Victory parish.

If you do not live in the attendance area or are a Catholic who is not a registered parishioner, you may still be able to vote or be a candidate in a Catholic school council election. Contact the Catholic Diocese of Whitehorse (867-667-2052 / contact@rcdw.ca) to discuss additional eligibility options.

 

How to be a candidate in a school council election

Nominations are now closed.

To be a candidate in a school council election, fill out a nomination form, including getting three (3) other eligible electors to nominate you.

Submitting your nomination form

You can submit your completed nomination form between April 15 and 12 noon on April 25, 2024.

Completed nomination papers must be given to the returning officer appointed for the school you are a candidate for.

Candidates in the school council election

The list of confirmed candidates and thier photos/biographies (if provided) are available. Candidate photos and biographies will be added as submitted.

 

When to vote in school council elections

Where a vote is needed, you can vote in-person at your school on:

  • Saturday, May 4 from 11 am to 4 pm
  • Monday, May 6 from 3 to 8 pm

You can also vote by emailing a completed application to vote with a photocopy, scan or picture of your idenitication to schools@electionsyukon.ca

Once your application is approved, your ballot will be mailed to you, or you can request that it be held for pick up at Elections Yukon's office during business hours.
