First Nation School Board by-election: Candidate nominations open tomorrow

A by-election to fill one vacant trustee position on the First Nation School Board (FNSB) is now underway.

Candidate nomination packages are now available at Completed nomination forms will be accepted until noon on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Applications to vote by mail or by internet are also open. Eligible electors can apply to vote by filling out the application available on Elections Yukon’s website.

Eligibility to vote or to be a candidate in the by-election is open to all Canadian citizens at least 18 years old who are either:

  • the parent of a student attending a FNSB-operated school OR
  • a member (or entitled to be a member) of a Yukon First Nation and have an ancestral language, that is a Yukon First Nation language, and have been a resident of the Yukon for at least three months.

Administering school board by-elections are an important part of the Elections Yukon mandate. I encourage all interested candidates and eligible electors to learn about the process, participate, and exercise their right to vote in the by-election.
