School council general election update: Candidate nomination deadline is Thursday, April 25 at noon

With less than 48 hours remaining in the school council nomination period, 36 candidate nominations have been received, leaving 59% of elected positions without candidates. Two-fifths (41%) of Yukon Education school councils are without quorum of at least two candidates.

Yukoners considering putting their name forward as a candidate can visit ElectionsYukon.ca to find nomination packages, returning officer contact information, and more information about the school council election process. All nominations must be submitted to the returning officer appointed to the school before noon on Thursday, April 25.

  • The deadline to submit nomination papers is Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 12 noon. All nomination papers must be submitted to the returning officer appointed to the school.
  • There are 86 elected positions on school councils. To date, 36 nominations have been received, leaving 59% of elected positions without candidates.
  • There are 17 Yukon Education schools with councils. Seven schools, or 41%, do not have at least two nominated candidates. School councils require at least two candidates to operate.
  • Candidate nomination packages can be downloaded or picked up from Yukon Education schools, returning officers, or at Elections Yukon's office in Whitehorse.
  • The list of candidates, their photos and biographies (if submitted) are being posted as they are submitted.
