School council general election update: Information session on Monday, April 22 at 6:30 pm

Elections Yukon and the Department of Education are co-hosting a Zoom information session on Monday, April 22 at 6:30 pm. All Yukon parents, guardians, and community members are invited to attend to learn about school councils and the nomination process and to have their questions answered by department and elections staff.

Candidate nominations for the 17 Yukon education school councils opened on Monday, April 15. Candidates have one week left to submit nomination papers. All nominations must be submitted to the returning officer appointed to the school before noon on Thursday, April 25.

Yukoners considering putting their name forward as a candidate can visit ElectionsYukon.ca to find nomination packages, returning officer contact information, and more information about the school council election process.

Quick facts

  • The Zoom link is https://yukonedu.zoom.us/j/64952795746  Registration is not required.
  • The deadline to submit nomination papers is Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 12 noon.
  • There are 86 elected positions on school councils. To date, 13 nominations have been received, leaving 85% of elected positions vacant.
  • There are 17 Yukon education schools with councils. To date, 10 schools, or 59%, are without any confirmed candidates.
