The 2023 Annual Report on Political Party Revenues was released to the public today by the Chief Electoral Officer of the Yukon, Maxwell Harvey. This annual revenue return, submitted in accordance with section 398 of the Elections Act, summarizes the reported revenue received by registered political parties for the 2023 calendar year.
This report details the total revenue received by the four registered political parties. It reports monetary contributions, in-kind contributions, and total other revenues. The report also contains the names of contributors who donated more than $250 in monetary or in-kind contributions.
In the 2023 calendar year, the four political parties reported $282,277 in total revenues, including $183,094 in contributions (monetary and in-kind) from 519 contributors. The average monetary contribution amount reported in 2023 was $338.
In a democracy, fundraising by political parties is an important element to support their ability to organize, promote candidates and policies, conduct outreach, and run campaigns. It is also an opportunity for electors to participate by supporting political organizations. Proactive financial disclosure requirements, such as the annual revenue return, are designed to ensure political financing is fair and transparent.
