Vote in the upcoming School Board Referendum
There are several ways to vote in the Referendum. They will be available during specific times and locations over the election period. For the first time eligible voters can apply to receive a ballot mailed to them online, by phone or by email
Applications for mail-out ballots will be available from Wednesday, January 5, 2022, until Monday, January 17, 2022. Ballot Kits will be sent out starting on January 11, 2022.
All ballots must be received by the Referendum Officer in the attendance area or by Elections Yukon on later than January 27 at 4:00 pm. Ballots may be returned to Elections Yukon in person or using the drop box located at the Government of Yukon Main Administration Building at 2071 Second Avenue.
Who is eligible to vote?
You can vote if you are:
- 18 years of age or older, and
- Canadian citizen, and
- Have not previously voted in this referendum for this school attendance area and qualified to vote based on attendance and/or residency
Attendance: Being a parent* of a student attending this school, AND/OR
Residency: A resident in the school attendance area** for at least three months.
*Parent means biological parent, adoptive parent, persons legally entitled to custody or the person who usually have care and control of the child.
**Note: Electors residing in an area with overlapping an attendance area may vote
in all referendums in which they reside. If an elector has children attending more than one school, they may vote in referendums for each of the schools they have a child in attendance.

How do I vote in the referendum?
You can vote in-person during set dates and times in the community, at Elections Yukon’s office or on the last day of the referendum period, January 27, 2022, in the schools holding the referendum.
You can also request a referendum ballot be mailed to you by completing the application on ElectionsYukon.ca. Applications can also be requested by email or phone. Email email@example.com or call 867-667-8683 or 1-866-668-8683 to request an application be sent to you.

Can I receive my ballot by mail?
You can request a referendum ballot be mailed to you by completing the application on ElectionsYukon.ca. Applications can also be requested by email or phone. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 867-667-8683 or 1-866-668-8683 to request an application be sent to you.
When requesting a ballot be mailed to you, you will be need to provide:
- Your residential address: eligibility is based on your residential address, not mailing address. This is important in determining that you reside in the school’s attendance area.
- Your mailing address (if different from your residential address): this is the location your referendum ballot kit will be sent to.
- Your identification: to confirm your eligibility.
If using a Yukon driver’s License or General Identification Card, only one piece of identification is required. If using other authorized proof of identification, two pieces of identification are required. See the List of authorized identification.
Once your application to receive a referendum ballot by mail has been reviewed, a referendum ballot kit containing everything you need to vote will be mailed to you. Your referendum ballot kit will contain instructions on how to complete the ballot. Read and follow the instructions carefully.
We’ve made it easy to return a completed ballot. There are multiple options to make sure you have plenty of time. You may return your completed ballot:
- By mail using the provided pre-addressed, postage paid envelope (considering mail times)
- Hand-deliver to the Referendum Officer for the school in your attendance area
- Drop off it off at Elections Yukon’s office or
- Use the drop box at the Government of Yukon Main Administration Building at 2071 Second Ave in Whitehorse.
Note that all ballots must be received by January 27, 2022, at 4:00 pm to be counted.
Once you have been mailed a ballot kit, you are considered to have voted and cannot then vote with the Referendum Officer.
If you are eligible to vote in two schools based on your residency or have a child in attendance in two areas, you must apply to have two Referendum ballot be mailed to you.
How can I vote in-person?
There are several options for voting in-person:
With the Referendum Officer during set hours: Referendum Officers for each school attendance area will have designated dates, times and locations for eligible electors to vote. The dates and times will vary by community.
With the Referendum Officer by appointment: If you are not available during the designated time, you can contact your Referendum Officer to make an appointment to vote. Referendum Officers’ contact information is available on ElectionsYukon.ca.
At Elections Yukon’s Office: Elections Yukon’s office is located on the lower level of the Main Administration Building in Whitehorse. Eligible electors can receive their ballot for any school holding a referendum during regular business hours (Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm) from Tuesday, January 11 to Thursday, January 27, 2022.
At the school on the last day of the referendum period: Referendum Officers will be available in schools holding referendums on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
Where to vote on January 27
If you are voting in person on January 27, 2022, Referendum Officer will be available from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the schools holding referendums. Polling places will be set up in:
